All Aboard the Marion KAL

MarionKALyarn

Happy late August, friends! Just wanted to pop in and say that I’ll be joining the Marion KAL (knit-along) that Andi is hosting. I was all set to start on the Miette cardigan, but – long story short – the yarn just wasn’t quite right for that particular project. As I was contemplating next steps the KAL was announced, and so I thought why the heck not? I find these to be helpful motivators as a knitting beginner.

MarionKALI’m going with the recommended yarn for Marion, which is Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks. Can’t get over how inexpensive this yarn is: six skeins cost me just $16 total! I’m on a bit of a green kick right now (as you’ll see in my next two sewing projects) so I went with the Jalapeño color.

Marion seems like a nice project to practice knitting cables since they are only along the button band/neckline edge. Should be good times. I just discovered Kristin’s video tutorial, which really helps me visualize how cables are formed. Now the process/instructions make so much more sense, so thanks, Kristin! Didn’t realize you also had a knitting blog. :)

By the by, I am someone who never wants summer to end. It’s not that fall is bad (I guess), but it’s followed by the season which must not be named. I’m hoping that by sewing fun cold-weather clothes and knitting cozy cardigans, frigid days ahead will be slightly – slightly – less of a bummer.

Is anyone else knitting up Marion?! And do you love the fall or, like me, do you try to hold on to summer as long as possible?!

  1. That’s too bad about your last knit project! Hopefully this one turns out better – it looks perfectly cozy! Gahh, I totally skipped over that middle paragraph when I read this in my browser! I’m so glad you like the tutorial!! I’ve been majorly slacking, but I should have more tutorials out later this month… which brings to what I was going to say which is I can’t believe summer is leaving so soon! I love the summer and I definitely haven’t spent enough time with it this year. I typically like the fall, but I like it when it arrives in mid-late October. (What can I say, I’m from the south!) And yes, I’m already dreading that OTHER season, hmph. Can’t wait to see your progress on this KAL!

    • The last project wasn’t so bad since it didn’t get past swatch stage. The yarn I chose just wasn’t thick enough and I could only get the right gauge with needles that made the swatch too see-through, if that makes sense! I love the yarn though so I’ll find something else for it. Good to hear you’ll have more tutorials too!

I also like it when fall arrives a bit later. It’s technically still summer until Sept. 22 anyway so there! ;) I wasn’t that productive with sewing these past few months because I love NYC in the summer!

  2. I joined the knit-along, too! I’m not using the recommended yarn, but I think I can make it work with the one I chose. I cast on last night, I love how speedily it seems to be going. At only about 10 rows in at least ;p

    • Exciting! I just made my gauge swatch last night. Might need to try it again one needle size down. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out!

Hey, thanks for commenting! I truly appreciate it and always try to respond back. :)
