The Hetty White Cardigan

Greetings from sunny, springtime Brooklyn! I’ve managed to wedge myself between the Lower Manhattan skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. How about that?

I’m proud of my red wool coat and all, but it’s time to bump it from the top of the blog. Snow, be gone! In its place, I present this spring outfit. It’s a new Hetty cardigan paired with my Colette Chantilly dress from last year.

Hetty was a quick knit. And, yes, I was rather pleased about naming it Hetty White (okay, so the yarn isn’t exactly white, but I’m going with it). I’ve been wanting a light neutral to pair with colorful spring outfits, and I believe this’ll do the trick.

Cherry Pie Agatha Cardigan

Okay, so I haven’t timed my posts just right. Because of that, you’ll be seeing yet another finished knitting project at some point in the next week or so! I like to space these babies out between sewing projects, but what can you do? Between travel and the holidays, I made much more progress on my knitting than my sewing. But it’s okay – I am pretty psyched to have added another warm wool cardigan to my wardrobe arsenal because, brrrr, it’s cold out there!

This is the Agatha cardigan by, you guessed it, Andi Satterlund. I have loved this design long before I actively took up knitting. So beautiful and intricate. Ravelry tells me I added it to my queue in September 2013, close to a year before I knitted my first ever cardigan. I made a few mistakes with this one, but since I’m still in “I turned that string into a thing!” mode I’m pleased with it. I started this around Thanksgiving, slowed down a bit over the holidays, and finally finished in January. Still playing catch-up with project posts, t’would seem.

I first wore this cardigan to work and then for dinner at Benihana in midtown – gotta look put together for my hibachi shrimp!

Cozy Currant Miette Cardigan

Oh Nelly, the end of January is here and I’m just now posting a finished piece! Well, happy 2015, everyone! Hope you had a nice holiday season. :)

Okay, confession. This Miette cardigan was completed in late November and I first wore it on Thanksgiving day. Oops! Time flies when you’re busy wearing your new favorite cardigan, t’would seem. My blog documentation efforts have suffered lately, as I’ve since finished another cardigan and am almost done with a sweater. (More on my sewing progress at the end of this post.)

In short, I love this cardigan! It’s a great shape, I obviously love the cropped length, and it knits together quickly. Also, it’s a free pattern. Free! That means between the yarn and the buttons this baby cost me about $20. Good times. Leaves me more money to spend on pizza.

Marion KAL: Jalapeño Cropped Cardigan

Aha! I’ve finally gotten around to posting my finished Marion cardigan from the KAL hosted by Andi of Untangling Knots. The KAL ended on October 25th, but I’m mighty pleased to say I had this baby blocked and ready to wear about three or four days ahead of the deadline.

(And then didn’t get around to taking photos before going on vacation to Savannah and Charleston. Whoops!)

I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, the recommended yarn for this cardigan. As a knitting novice, I liked working with it and found the smaller skeins (110 yards) handy for carrying on the subway. Downside: more ends to weave in! It didn’t grow after blocking, not that I noticed anyway, and it feels soft.

Halfway through knitting this cardigan I worried the wool might feel scratchy against my skin, but it thankfully doesn’t. In these photos I’ve paired it with a black camisole and a wool bouclé pencil skirt I also recently finished. I’ll follow with a post on that one soon.

A Coral-Charcoal Belt

After my first cardigan came the question: what to knit next? I knew I wanted to make another cardigan, but when I saw this lace elastic belt tutorial I figured it’d be a small and quick project to break up the longer ones. Plus, I’d like to add more belts to my wardrobe even though I hardly ever think to wear them! I’m not big on accessorizing (I wear earrings and call it a day), but sometimes it’s nice to pair a belt with a dress. So here’s my attempt at doing just that.
