It seems Google Reader has marked a bunch of my old posts as new. Sorry if my year-old posts are now filling up your Reader – whoopsy daisy!
Colette Meringue (kinda): The Pretty Places Skirt
Wow, I’m absolutely flabbergasted – 14 people looked at my blog today! Good times! No, I’m serious, that’s awesome.
And can I just admit something? Keeping up with this blog has been a major pain in the petunia. Geez Louise! How do people do this every single day? I’m seriously impressed. Every now and then I think about giving up the blog and just posting to my Burdastyle page. Well, we’ll see…
Anyway, on with the show:

How I prefer to wear this skirt – with a white top and heels! Maybe I should add a belt in the future? This skirt looks better in person, I promise! It’s all wrinkly after a day at the office…
I’m going to stop apologizing for the Stinky Pete quality of these photos…one day. I feel like I always need to let you know that I realize they’re not so great, but it’s either I get a photo of my creation so I can actually share it with you or wait weeks on end for me to find the time and energy to go somewhere interesting for my photos. Sheesh, I sound like such a stinker. I’m in bloomin’ New York City for crying out loud! So many opportunities abound…
Tangent aside, I actually finished this skirt just before Memorial Day weekend (that’s the end of May for folks outside the U.S.). You will probably not recognize it all – it’s the Meringue Skirt from the Colette Sewing Handbook! Yes, you’re correct, a heavily modified version at that.
A Dress for Warm Days Ahead
Hi again! I just wanted to say I’d like to tackle this dress next: Vogue 8380, view A (the green one). I’m thinking about pairing it with this pretty light yellow cotton lawn fabric I picked up at G Street Fabrics in northern Virginia last summer.
I’m going to make a muslin of the top part to see how low cut the bodice is and go from there. It’d be really nice to have it ready in time for a special event a week from tomorrow, but I’m not going to even try to stress out about that! If it’s not ready by then, I’ll just be that much closer to finishing up a dress for warm days ahead. :)
Kwik Sew 3602: Pajama Party!
Hi, this is my first post on my new WordPress blog!! I used to be on Blogger, remember me?
I actually have a finished sewing project to share, finally! It’s all a bit exciting around here, I tell ya. I woke up this morning ready to photograph my pajama bottoms…and then the camera battery needed to be charged.
- Pattern: Kwik Sew 3602, size XS
- Fabric: 1 1/2 yards of plaid flannel cotton from Sew L.A.
- Extras: Elastic waistband and red ribbon waist ties
- Paired with: Renfrew Top from Sewaholic Patterns
- What I’m reading: Karen asked us to share our current read. Mine is Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig. Makes for good reading on the subway :)
These were made as part of Karen’s “Pyjama Party Sew-Along”! This is officially the first sew-along I’ve finished on time, but there’s a catch. Both of these pj’s are UFOs. Oh well, what matters is they’re done! The first pair I’m sharing is made of fabric I bought at the end of 2009. It was the end of the bolt so there was only 1 1/2 yards left, but the pattern calls for more than that. I made it work! I really wanted a pair of plaid pajamas so there you have it.
My (Almost) Sewing Reunion
I’m so happy, this weekend I’m going to be reunited with my long lost sewing machine! It’s been a couple of weeks since my move and while I was in transition there was no sewing to be had.
Now that I’m in my new apartment my sewing machine, fabrics, patterns, etc. will have a home again. The photo in this post shows the only sewing-related items I’ve had with. I had this idea that, between starting a new job and finding an apartment, I’d somehow get started with my coat muslin. Yeah right! I did get to read some of that Tailoring book seen in the photo though, a Christmas present from my sister.
I’m excited to get sewing again! I’d love to make more Sewaholic Renfrews for work (and take better photos than I posted – sometimes I really can’t take a good photo!).
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone :) Oh, and I can’t wait for the season finale of Downton Abbey! Yay for Sybil and Branson! How cute are they?
