Progress, I Promise!

Just a quick update to say that all the pieces are cut for my Vogue 8379 wrap dress! Phew, it took a couple of evenings to cut these out. They’ve taken over my living room and I couldn’t get them all in this photo, but you get the idea. :) I’m not going to have much time over the next week to work on this, so I figured I’d give this mini progress report to keep the momentum going. (I decided not to take the fullness out of the skirt like most versions I’ve seen online – I’m curious to see how it will look.)

Oh, and I also traced the pattern pieces for Gertie’s Pencil Skirt. I didn’t realize when I bought the book that a lot of the pieces are printed over each other like patterns from magazines. Kind of the pits to trace, if you ask me. All those lines overlapping each other = confusing. But, hey, it’s done!

  1. Wow. That fabric looks so lovely! Cutting out always requires the biggest chunk of time for me. After that I can usually grab 20 minutes here or there for a side seam or some pressing. Can’t wait to see more!

  2. Thanks for your encouragement, ladies! Yes, Leu, cutting out takes the longest for me too, especially for knit fabrics. I look forward to finishing the dress!

  3. So I am diving in to the Gertie book today. I am attempting the Wintertime Jumper with a great burgundy stretch twill with a flocked vine print I got for 3$ a yard. I don’t mind the tracing but I am feeling like I have to flip back and forth through the book a lot. The jumper is a version of the Sultry Sheath which is a combination of the pencil skirt, pattern maps, size chart. I feel a bit like I am sewing through an old Choose Your Own Adventure book! I need to grab some post its and tab the pages for quicker flipping. Hope your projects are going well!

    • Choose Your Own Adventure Book, I like that comparison! I’d love to see how your dress turns out. And the post-it idea is great, especially since I’m going to work on the pencil skirt next. :)

Speaking of projects, I finished my wrap dress last night and am wearing it today! I just need to take photos this weekend (so dark now by the time I get home) and then I’ll share. I’m so happy with how it turned out!!
